Anthony Gabriele

Conductor; Pianist; Vocal Coach;

Arranger; Orchestrator

Anthony Gabriele has established an international reputation for conducting with tremendous passion born

of a profound knowledge and understanding of the repertoire.  He was awarded 2nd Prize in the 2011

biennial Blue Danube Musik Impresario (Vienna) International Opera Conducting Competition, hosted by

the Bulgarian State Opera (Burgas).

 

Anthony studied conducting, composition, piano and voice at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and

since 1993 has amassed a prodigious variety of operatic and musical theatre credits as a Music Director,

Conductor, Chorus Master, Language Coach, Vocal Coach and Accompanist.

 

He works extensively as a freelance conductor, arranger and orchestrator and has conducted the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Guernsey Camerata, the Manchester Camerata and the Britten Sinfonia.  He was appointed Principal Conductor for the British Sinfonietta following his debut with them in October 2013 in concerts featuring Dame Evelyn Glennie.  He made his debut at the International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen in 2014, alongside a roster of international opera singers including Noah Stewart, Gary Griffiths and Menna Cazel as well as Cape Town Opera and Only Kids Aloud!  

 

Anthony has conducted numerous ‘film with live orchestra’ projects including numerous performances of Psycho Live – screenings of Alfred Hitchcock’s film ‘Psycho’ accompanied by a live performance of Bernard Herrmann’s score.  More recently, he has conducted the score for ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ at a screening of the film in Barcelona.  In May 2018, he will return to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall to conduct the RLPO in a live performance of Bernard Herrmann’s score to accompany a 60th anniversary screening of Alfred Hitcock’s, ‘Vertigo’.  

 

Anthony has conducted at the National Theatre of Opera & Ballet Sarajevo and the Bulgarian State Opera.  He has also conducted an Opera Gala at the Opera House in Almaty (Kazakhstan) with the internationally renowned Italian tenor, Fabio Armiliato.

 

His operatic repertoire includes La Traviata, Don Giovanni, Madama Butterfly, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Bohème, La Cenerentola, The Magic Flute, Orpheus in the Underworld, The Little Mermaid, The Moonrakers Opera and The Happy Prince.

 

As Music Director, he has conducted South Pacific, Blood Brothers, Ken Hill’s Phantom of the Opera, A Grand Night For Singing, Chess, CATS (West End revival and international tour), Grease, The Wizard of Oz, Bye Bye Birdie, The Lion King (London’s West End, Sydney, Melbourne and Shanghai), The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty’s Theatre, London and 25thAnniversary Tour), Three Phantoms (UK and Ireland Tour, Scandinavian Tour) Forever Plaid (St. James’ Theatre), Funny Girl and Jesus Christ Superstar (The Production Company – Australia) and The Sound of Music (UK Tour).
